Dragons at the Docks present €233,000 cheque to Dublin Simon Community

After another hugely successful day at the second annual Dragons at the Docks 2018 on August 30th, we were delighted and honored to present a cheque to Dublin Simon Community for €233,000.

In supporting the Simon Capital Development Fund, Dublin Simon Community will acquire 8 apartments this year for people experiencing homelessness. Since the inception of Dragons at the Docks in 2017, the event has helped Dublin Simon Community acquire a total of 11 permanent homes helping a minimum of 14 people move out of homelessness into a place they can call home.

Kevin Nowlan, CEO of Hibernia REIT, one of the cornerstone sponsors of the event, said:

“This event is becoming an annual fixture across our industry, and it’s wonderful to see its scale and impact grow each year. The numbers participating increased from 720 to 840 this year, demonstrating the recognition of the importance of Dublin Simon’s work on behalf of homeless people. The monies raised also increased substantially on last year, with a total of €308,000 being donated to Dublin Simon and other local charities. We look forward to further growing the scale and impact of the event next year.”

Over 800 hundred people working in the Irish property industry took part in the event during the summer, raising over €308,000 in total, with 75% of the funds raised being  donated to Dublin Simon Community and the balance being distributed to local Irish charities, nominated by the nine cornerstone sponsors. These charities included:  Liberty Saints, St Andrew’s Resource Centre (Hibernia REIT), Temple Street (Cairn Homes), Barretstown (Glenveagh Properties PLC), St Vincent’s de Paul, Alone (Green REIT PLC), Ross Nugent Foundation, Inner City Helping Homelessness (Hammerson), National Rehabilitation Hospital (Hines), Dublin Neurological Institute at the Mater Hospital (IRES REIT) and Plurabelle Paddlers (Kennedy Wilson).

Dragons at the Docks is proudly supported by nine of the country’s biggest property companies: Hibernia REIT, Cairn Homes, Green REIT, Glenveagh Properties PLC, Hammerson, Ires REIT, Dalata Hotel Group and Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate.

We were delighted to get this featured in The Irish Times today and you read it here.

We are looking forward to doing it all again this year on August 29th, so make sure you save the date and get ready to race!
