After such a fantastic day on August 31st at the inaugural Dragon’s at the Docks, we were delighted to hand-over a cheque of €165,000 to Dublin Simon Community. The money raised has acquired three apartments, providing people with a permanent safe place to call home. In supporting the Simon Capital Development Fund, the Dragon at the Docks fundraiser is part of an innovative solution which will help Dublin Simon Community achieve an overall goal of 480-bed units within the next 4-5 years, helping up to 750 men, women and children move out of homelessness for good. Since the commencement of their five-year strategic plan in 2016, Simon has provided homes for over 260 adults and children.
In addition, Dragons at the Docks 2017 were able to donate an additional €54,000 to various charities chosen by the various Committee Members. The wonderful charities chosen are: Liberty Saints Rugby Football Club, Young Social Innovators (Hibernia REIT), Inner City Enterprise, Barretstown (Cairn), Breast Cancer Ireland, St. Andrew’s Resource Centre (Ires), Ross Nugent Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation (Hammerson), Citywise Education (Green REIT), Plurabelle Paddlers (Kennedy Wilson).
Of course, none of this would have been possible, without the fantastic support and generous contributions of all the participants, who gave up their time to get out and enjoy a great day while raising an incredible amount of money for these amazing charities!
We are really looking forward to doing it all again in 2018 and are aiming to raise even more money,
Wishing you all a very Happy & Healthy New Year
